Wednesday, 1/23 - Friday, 1/25

Hello all! Please note that our new tardy policy begins Wednesday, 1/23. There will be a strict continuum of consequences for unexcused tardies to class. Also, please be aware that our team expectation is for students to turn in all work on time. If work is late, your grade will be automatically reduced to 60%. The only exception to this is if you have an excused absence. In this case, you will receive one extra day to turn in the work.

Here is what our short week looks like!

Wednesday
Objective: We will continue viewing The Day the Earth Stood Still and make note of the similarities between the film and the science fiction short stories we have read in class.
Homework: Begin your Words to Live By assignment. This is due on Friday, 1/25!
Work on your book project. This is due February 15th.

Thursday
Objective: We will finish viewing The Day the Earth Stood Still. Students will choose one science-fiction short story or film that we have studied and rewrite the ending. Students will be given a rubric for this writing assignment and will have time in class Thursday and Friday to create their story. Students must use class time wisely to complete this independent assignment.
Homework: Complete Words to Live By.
                     Work on book project.

Friday: Words to Live By is due!!!
Objective: We will continue working on our short stories to demonstrate our ability to plan, draft, edit, and publish clear, descriptive writing samples.
Homework: Complete science-fiction short story rough draft. This is due Monday.
Begin working on Vocabulary Unit 3. Quiz and activities will be Friday, February
                     1st.
Work on book project. By now you need to have selected a book and started
reading. Use a calendar to judge the pace you will work at for this project. Do not
wait until the last minute to do this project.
